Indie Game Comic is a webcomic about a bunch of people trying to make their website popular while talking to each other on forums. As the name implies, most of these people also play indie games. Thus, this is a webomic about some people who play indie games together. Kind of like the generic "two gamers" thing, but with more people, more indie, and less couches.
The underlying motive for most of the characters is to make their website, Indie Game Community, popular. They tend to get sidetracked by video games and character development, however. Indie Game Community is almost always abbreviated to "IGC" and the people who post on its forum are called "IGCers". The webcomic itself can also be abbreviated to "IGC", which is part of the joke kind of. I don't know.
Despite its theme, I try to keep the comic as comprehensible as possible. Given the nature of indie games, it's inevitable that you're going to see a reference you don't get at least once, even if you're some kind of hardcore 'net addict. Thus, I try to keep most of the settings explained adequately enough that they can be understood by anyone.
I (the author of this comic) am known as Bran Rainey. Yes, the "Bran" character is named after me. He's not actually anything like me, though. I also produce sketch comedy videos when I'm not making this comic. Indie Game Comic is my intellectual property, but feel free to do whatever you want with it as long as you're not profiting from my work. All the games, sprites, etc. referenced or used in the comic should constitute parody (and thus legal). Send emails to bran@yudia.net.

Andrew is the administrator of the IGC forum. He's more reasonable than most of the people around him, so he tends to be the straight man in many situations. Despite this, he still has a sense of humour and is loyally devoted to IGC. His hair is the same colour as Cody's when it gets wet, just in case you wanted to know. |
Bran is the shameless self-insert of this comic's author, except that the character doesn't act anything like me. Bran likes to insult people. Actually, insulting and complaining is pretty much all he does. He is constantly frustrated that people don't take him seriously, which gives him a tendency to overreact. A lot of people don't like Bran, but he sticks around anyway. He's one of the four active members of "the faraway forum". |
Bri (pronounced "bree", if you couldn't tell) is the token female character with no plot relevance. Actually, no. Brianna is a normal person who just happens to like playing indie games on the internet. She's also an artist. She spends most of her time on an artsy (and pink) forum with her friend Cody. |
Cody is just a normal guy on the web. He has a sense of humour, but tends to be more impatient than most people. He and Bran are in a bit of a feud. He spends most of his time with Bri. |
Damon is one of the four active members of "the faraway forum", and only occasionally visits IGC. He vastly prefers commercial games to indie games, so he spends a lot of time playing his Wii. (No, I'm not sponsored by Nintendo.) Damon is friends with "that guy from the faraway forum" -- the one who isn't Bran or Ryan. |
Evan is the game manager for the games database. It's his responsibilty to find indie games, play them to test their quality, and add them to the games database. He used to be the webmaster of IGC before Ryan bought the server. Evan is usually a pretty happy guy, though he's been known to crack under pressure. He says "kthx" a lot despite proving his intelligence on multiple occasions. |
Ryan is the webmaster of IGC, since he bought it (somewhat underhandedly) from Evan. He can turn his avatar red while on IGC, if he wants to warn people that he's using his admin powers; otherwise, he's just an ordinary brown-haired boy with an oddly-coloured shirt. Though he can be a bit naive at times, Ryan is a good person at heart and always does his best for IGC. He is one of the four active members of "the faraway forum". |
 | "That guy from the faraway forum" is a guy from "the faraway forum". There were a lot of quotation marks in that sentence. This guy's username has yet to be revealed, so there's no better way of talking about him. He didn't, doesn't, and never will visit IGC, because he doesn't care for indie games at all. He spends all his time playing his Wii and posting on "the faraway forum". He also wears a gold chain around his neck for some reason. |
